It seems like Japan, for whatever reason, is Ground Zero for strange products or flavors of products that you can’t find anywhere else. Kit Kats are particularly noteworthy, coming in more than 40 strange varieties like green tea and banana, but there’s peculiar variants on pretty much any snack food you can name.

Have you, for example, ever happened to have a watermelon Oreo? That doesn’t quite sound right, but it has piqued my interests. I would certainly eat one. Just look at it; the icing in the middle even has a half-green, half-red swirl to make it look like a watermelon. If only they could’ve found a way to get the seeds in there!

Here’s a good one: Yogurt Pepsi. Much like the recently-renewed Crystal Pepsi, Pepsi Yogurt Flavor or “Pepsi White” in Japan comes in an odd-shaped bottle and an even odder flavor. I’m fine with the concept, but I don’t think I’d be too willing to take the full dive into a big ol’ 2 liter like that right from the start.

Everyone likes chips, and in the past few years we’ve seen Lays come into the habit of releasing obscure (but delicious) chip flavors; they’ve had everything from chicken and waffles to dill pickle flavored potato crisps. Pringles in Asia, however, might have them beat, offering up soft-shell crab, seaweed and grilled shrimp flavors which are respectively colored yellow, green and pink.

In terms of Oreos, we could get a little bit more obscure if you wanted. Watermelon not good enough for you? Well, try green tea on for size! The only thing I don’t necessarily understand about this one is why the green tea is in a milkshake on the packaging. I’ve never heard of anything like that, but I’m trying to get one of those bad boys in me.
